Srinagar: Asserting a new Jammu and Kashmir will emerge that will be fear-free, corruption-free, democratic, and developed region contributing for a developed India, Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha said that people across the UT want peace, prosperity and growth.
Addressing Network 18 India’s ‘Chaupal Conclave’ Lt Guv Manoj Sinha said that lot has changed in the UT since the abrogation of Art 370.
“Overall, people of J&K want peace, prosperity and growth. In 2018-19, after spending Rs 67000 crores less than 10000 projects were completed, whereas in 2019-20, we have completed more than 21000 projects after spending only Rs 63000 crores. Executing more projects with comparatively less expenditure is what has changed in JK,” he said.
“In road construction, three years back J&K used to be at 11th or 12th place in the whole country, but during the last two years, J&K has graduated to 3rd place achieving road construction 2.5 times the previous years,” he said.
He said that on an average per year 2500-2600km road used to be macdamised in a year, last year we macdamised 5600 kms and this year we will complete 8000 kms.
The Lt Guv said that 25 national Highways are under construction in J&K, besides more domestic flights in J&K and International Flights to Sharjah started from Srinagar.
“This will ensure better connectivity of the region with the rest of the country,” he said.
He said that in power sector, the maximum realized power potential was only 3500MW.
“With new power projects we are doubling it in next 5 years to move towards self sufficiency in the sector,” the Lt Guv said.
He said that in Health Infrastructure, J&K had only 3 Medical colleges. Now 7 new Medical colleges have been established, 2 new AIIMS, 2 new Cancer Institute’s, besides many nursing colleges have come up.
Sinha said that many investment proposals are pouring in from various quarters and proposals worth Rs.15000 Cr have already been approved.
“After New Industrial Policy, the proposed investment that the government has already received has crossed Rs. 31,000 Cr, twice what was expected,” he said.
He said that tourist footfall increased manifold in the UT during winter months signaling a revival for the industry.
“From 1935 tourists in June 2020, the number increased to 1282572 in September 2021. Winter season is witnessing 100% high-end-hotel occupancy in Srinagar and at prominent tourist destinations,” the Lt Guv said.
The Lt Guv said that his administration has adopted a zero tolerance attitude towards corruption.
“11000 candidates have secured government jobs in the most fair and transparent recruitment process in the history of J&K,” he said.
He said that farmers cross Jammu and Kashmir are witnessing an increased income after the administration adopted framer friendly policies.
“The average income of farmers in J&K is around Rs 19000, which is fifth highest in the country,” he said.
He said that post abrogation of Art 370 reservation benefits have percolated to all eligible communities who remained deprived since long.
“Certain communities of J&K (Khatri, mahajans etc) were not allowed to purchase agriculture land that has been changed now. Forest Rights Act implemented in toto. Domicile rights to women have been restored and marginalised communities are being brought into mainstream,: he added.
Sinha said that Union Home Minister has already announced that elections will be held after Delimitation exercise culminates and then after Statehood will be restored.
“Only Parliament can restore statehood. Both the Prime Minister and the Home minister have spoken on this issue in detail in Parliament and to the country,” he said.
