Awantipora residents seek potable water

Pulwama: The residents of Padgampora village in Awantipora hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for allegedly supplying them contaminated water.
The residents blocked the main road and raised slogans against the concerned department while demanding attention of higher ups in this regard.
The protesters alleged that Jal Shakti department is supplying them contaminated water since last two months thus putting the lives thousands of people in danger.
They said that despite repeated reminders to the concerned authorities, they have failed to take cognizance of the issue due to a epidemic can break out any time in the entire locality.
“Since two months we are being treated like cattle as even animals won’t consume the water that is otherwise supplied to us,” said a protestor.
He said that the concerned department is fully aware about the issue but they are watching as a mere spectator and no steps are being taken on ground.
The locals requested the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and make arrangements for supply of potable water to the area.
Meanwhile, soon after the protest, a team of officials reached the spot and assured the protesters that the needful will be done on priority basis after which the protest was called off.
