Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood’s NGO, along with Bengaluru Police, helped avert a major tragedy at a city hospital treating COVID-19 patients, on Wednesday.

A leak in the oxygen support system was found after 10 pm at the Shreyas Hospital in Bengaluru, and the hospital authorities realised that they have only an hour supply of oxygen left. A doctor at the hospital reached out to Sood Charity Foundation and city police.

By the time the police rushed to the spot, members from the actor’s NGO was already there at the hospital, arranging oxygen cylinders. “We also contacted other hospitals and oxygen plants in Peenyya, and we were able to get a few cylinders delivered to the hospital within 15 minutes. Together, we averted a tragedy,” Times of India quoted Assistant Commissioner of Police Reena Suvarna as saying.

Sonu Sood has been playing an active role in the battle against COVID-19, helping out thousands of underprivileged people during the pandemic.

The actor was also made brand ambassador for Punjab’s anti-coronavirus vaccination programme.

On April 17, Sood released a statement that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He wrote: “Hi everyone, this is to inform you that i have tested positive this morning for covid -19 as a part of precautions i have already quarantined my self & taking utmost care , but don’t worry this gives me ample time to solve your problems remember i’m always there for you all.
