BJP debuts in Kashmir , bags 3 seats

Rather wins in Balhama, Minha in Kakpora, Aajaz in  Tulail  Srinagar, Dec 22:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finally managed to open its account in the Valley after winning three District Development Council (DDC) seats on Tuesday.According to results declared by Election Commission, the party won one seat each from Srinagar, Bandipora, and Pulwama districts.Aijaz  Hussain Rather, national vice-president of BJP youth wing won from Balhama constituency in Srinagar.Rather won the seat by securing 823 votes. He defeated Apni Party’s candidate Ghulam Hassan Hajam by 442 votes.The BJP also won from south Kashmir’s Kakpora constituency in Pulwama. BJP’s candidate Minha Lateef managed to win by the small margin of 14 votes. Minha got  364 votes against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Ruqaya Bano who secured 350 votes.In Tulail in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, BJP candidate Aajaz Ahmad Khan won the seat by securing 2523 votes. Khan defeated Independent candidate Abdul Samad Lone by 1330 votes.The DDC polls were the first major political activity in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of  Article 370 in August 2019.The polling was held over eight phases beginning November 28 and ending on December 19. The eight-phase polls will also fill 228 vacant seats of ULBs and 12,153 seats of panch and sarpanch.Talking with the media after his win,  Aijaz Hussain Rather credited the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hard work of party workers for his success.”This is a win for the BJP. The propaganda has been busted as people have shown their faith in the prime minister and his policies. This is a message that nationalists are prospering in Kashmir,” Rather told reporters outside the counting centre at SKICC here.Rather said DDC election was a fight between the BJP and rest of the parties.”They all came together against the BJP as they were afraid of it. But, still, the BJP won seats from the valley. Now, they should introspect. People want development and this is a vote for development,” he said.Of 280 DDC seats, BJP has contested on  80 seats and on the remaining 200 had supported independent candidates.BJP congratulates workers Srinagar, Dec 22: BJP J&K general secretary and in charge Kashmir Vibodh Gupta congratulated the party workers saying Kashmir has scripted history by recording three victories in the valley in the first-ever DDC elections.Gupta said that the people of Kashmir exhibited their faith in PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Naya Kashmir and Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas adding that this victory marks a ‘change of wave’ in the valley.”BJP’s maiden three victories in DDC elections in Kashmir speak of two stories – one of conquest by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking the beginning of a new era in the valley and the other of conveying a strong message to Gupkar Gang that the end of their communal and divisive politics is near,” Vibodh said.Gupta strongly asserted that this is the beginning of the end of terrorism, Gupkar Gang and separatism from the valley. He maintained that this is the victory of Modi’s vision, aspiration of common people of the valley and BJP’s Kashmir Karyakartas, he added.The saffron party had also made some advances in Kashmir, by winning 100 wards in the valley, in the four-phased urban local bodies elections in the previous municipal elections
