Power projects worth Rs 2300 Cr to light up Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 15:The power projects worth Rs 2300 crore under Integrated Power Development Scheme would be completed by March next year in the Valley in an effort to take forward the central government’s initiative of supplying electricity to every village in Jammu and Kashmir,According to the government, as many as 91 urban towns, 18 districts, and 17 towns would be covered under the five major centre sponsored power schemes for Jammu and Kashmir.The official data, a copy of which lies with Rising Kashmir,  reveals that under IPDS, 45  urban towns of Kashmir would be provided electricity supply.The original sanctioned cost of the project was Rs 222.21 crore, of which Rs 64.83 crore have already been utilised.The project is 68 per cent complete and as per the revised completion date would be completed by 31 March 2021.Among 45 towns that are being developed under IPDS include Uri, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Pampore Chrar-i-Sharief.Similarly, under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP)- urban and rural- 46 urban towns and 9 districts would be provided electricity by March next year.The centre has allotted Rs 513.83 crore under PMDP scheme of which Rs 291.02 crore have already been spent by the power department. The project is 65 percent completed.Some of the villages developed under PMDP include Kupwara, Srinagar, Kulgam among others.In another centre sponsored scheme,  Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), at least nine districts would be provided  power supply at the cost of Rs 291.82 crore.As per the data, 53 per cent work is completed under the scheme, while Rs 85.91 crore financial progress has been made so far.The revised completion date of the scheme has been set by 31 March 2021.The villages that are being developed under DDUGJY include Anantnag, Budgam, Baramulla, Pulwama.In the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) scheme, a centrally sponsored scheme launched to bring about reforms in the power sector in Jammu and Kashmir, the work is currently in progress in 17 towns in the Valley.The centre has allotted Rs 872.36 crore under the scheme of which Rs 173.41 crore has already been utilised, while 32 per cent project is completed. As per the revised completion date, the projects under the scheme would be completed by 30 June 2021.Some of the towns that are being developed under RAPDRP include Srinagar, Baramulla, Handwara, Kupwara, Bandipora and Pulwama.Talking to Rising Kashmir, Chief Engineer Projects, Javed Yousuf said that most of the projects taken under the five schemes are 50 per cent completed.”All the schemes aim to bring power supply in each and every household of Kashmir. And once all the projects will complete, we will almost achieve 100 per cent electrification in Kashmir,” Yousuf said.All the schemes aim to bring power supply reliability, monitoring of all feeders, proper energy accounting and auditing, cabling, metering, distribution of transformers, and building power receiving stations.
